We had four people who wrote back to us (two on Facebook, one directly by email, one with a comment on our blog page), and all four guessed correctly.
It's DOLLY PARTON! Here's a closer look at the statue.
According to several biographies, Dolly was born in Sevierville - just blocks from her statue - but grew up in Locust Ridge, TN (which is so small, it isn't on the map). She has always considered Sevier County as her "home town." And every year, she comes back for a "Dolly Appreciation Parade." This year, it will be Friday, May 10 at 6:00 pm in Pigeon Forge.
Now, about the prize I suggested. One of Dolly's most popular songs - and the name of her first movie - was "9 to 5." Nine plus five equals 14. So Mark, Denny, Elsie and Denny will each get a discount of 14% off a vacation stay at Smoky Mountain Tower or All Decked Out between now and June 30, 2013 (minimum 3 nights).
