Changes at Smoky Mountain Tower - part 1

Phyllis and I went to Gatlinburg last week for a very fast trip. The main purpose was to replace the queen sofa sleeper at Smoky Mountain Tower. Somehow, the frame had been bent by a guest to the point where we couldn't close the bed. Then it got worse and we couldn't open it!

The solution? Not another sofa-sleeper. They never are as comfortable as we wish (although we had just replaced the mattress a few months ago), and the mechanism is obviously subject to a problem. So we decided a better approach is a daybed with a trundle - you know, one of those beds that slides under the daybed.

The decision was a lot easier than the execution. Because the sofa sleeper was in the Tower Room - four levels up. If you've been following us for awhile, you may remember that we got the sofa-sleeper up to the Tower Room by hauling it up from the outside.

The only way to get it out was the same way. We took the metal guts out first. Then we just took everything out on the deck...

...and threw it down to the driveway!

The guys from Carl Hatcher Furniture who delivered the daybed loaded it all in their truck and took it away.

In our next post, we'll show you how the daybed got up to the Tower Room and what it looks like. Of course, you can see it first-hand when you stay at Smoky Mountain Tower!

Goodbye ... and Hello!

The '$40 off per night' deal is now just a memory. Thanks to all who took advantage of it. Actually, it was a test - just to see if potential guests thought the price was right. Based on our response, it doesn't look like it.

Since people don't seem to like it when prices go down, there is only one other conclusion to draw. So we will be increasing our prices at Smoky Mountain Tower, effective September 1 by $10.00 per night. I'll explain our pricing philosophy in a later post.

If you are one of those folks who likes to save money, now is the time! And pass this along to your friends - they will thank you for helping them save some money.

But we're also making some changes at Smoky Mountain Tower. We'll tell you more in our next post - just as soon as I can get everything organized. So keep watching. And if you have plans for Gatlinburg this fall and winter - or even next year - and want to save a few dollars, now is the time to make your reservation. And I do mean NOW!

And there are still some good dates available. If you can't get away between now and September 30, how about doing a friend a favor and telling them about this deal.
